Mark Curran: Training and Narcan will help responders deal with overdoses

As Sheriff, I took steps to ensure my staff had the training and tools to help those experiencing a medical emergency or mental health emergency. The training in crisis intervention and in the proper use of naloxone (Narcan), would ensure those experiencing either a mental health emergency or overdose would have care until they were attended to by the right medical professionals. I will be an advocate for increased mental health treatment and drug rehabilitation programs.

Anna Eshoo: Allow medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder

Congress must pass legislation that provides evidence-based medication-assisted treatment to help anyone suffering from opioid addiction. Congress must end the "X-waiver," which requires physicians to complete additional training and obtain a special license from the DEA in order to prescribe buprenorphine for opioid use disorder. No other treatment has such burdensome requirements. The X-waiver directly limits the number of clinicians who are able to prescribe life-saving treatment.

Marcia Squier: Legalize pot, give addicts treatment, end war on drugs

I would work to end the failed "war on drugs", decriminalizing illicit drug use and retroactively legalizing cannabis. I would introduce guaranteed healthcare for all, including mental health, hospitalization/rehabilitation for drug addiction, and cannabis prescription coverage. I would hold opioid producers criminally responsible for their crimes against humanity in the name of profit.
